Reiki in the Office, Part I
by William Lee Rand

If you have Reiki and work in an office, there are many ways you can use Reiki to decrease stress, improve efficiency and enhance creativity. All three of these areas are important to the purpose of any office and therefore important to your boss and the business owner. By using Reiki in the ways mentioned here, you’ll make your job easier and more enjoyable. At the same time, you'll make yourself a more valuable employee and enhance the work environment for your fellow employees as well.

Combining Reiki with Work
You can do Reiki at the same time that you are doing your work. As an example, if you’re entering data into a computer, typing a letter or filling out a computer form, ask Reiki to flow while you perform the task. To do this, draw the power symbol and/or the mental/emotional symbol on your hands before starting the task or project. If you haven’t taken Reiki II yet and don’t have these symbols, just think of Reiki. While drawing the symbols, intend that Reiki will flow the entire time you’re working on the project. As you type or work on your project, allow some of your attention to remain with the flow of the Reiki energy from time to time as it pulses through your arms and hands. This would be similar to the way you might be aware of a cool breeze or the warmth of the sun as you work.

Reiki will flow both to you and to the project you’re working on. You will enter a more relaxed yet alert state. You’ll type more quickly with fewer errors, and you'll get more work done. If it’s a creative project, you’ll be able to solve problems more easily and combine ideas in clever and unique ways to create new processes and techniques. Your memory will also be enhanced, and you’ll be more present and focused on your project. Your communication will be clearer, more effective and to the point, yet contain a greater level of harmony that will be pleasing to those who read what you have written. If you remember to do this often, you’ll get to the end of your workday feeling less fatigued, more refreshed and with a greater feeling of accomplishment.

Reiki and the Telephone
Use Reiki when talking to customers, clients or fellow employees on the telephone. Draw or think of the distant symbol and intend that Reiki flow to you and to the person you’re talking with. You can also add the power and mental/emotional symbols. (This process will work without the use of symbols, just by thinking of Reiki and intending it to flow, but if you use the symbols, it will be more effective.) This will create a wonderful feeling of peace and harmony between you and the other person, and these pleasant feelings will help make your communication more effective. Both you and the person you’re talking with will have a greater tendency to really hear and understand what the other is saying. This will be helpful with all telephone communication, but can be especially valuable when talking to an upset customer or handling difficult calls.

Some might wonder about the appropriateness of sending Reiki to someone who hasn't asked for it and who has no knowledge that it is being sent. Keep in mind that Reiki has its own intelligence and will respect the free will of the other person. If they don’t want it, Reiki will know this and will not force its energy onto the other person. In cases like this, the Reiki energy will remain with you, helping you to remain calm, centered and focused in the moment and able to communicate more effectively. You’ll also be able to deal with difficult situations without being drawn into someone else’s distress.

I suggest you try these two methods of adding Reiki to your office activities and see how you like them. Note the results you get and if you find them useful, remember to use Reiki often. As you do this, the regular use of Reiki will become a habit, a very positive habit that will create noticeable benefits.

Reiki and Automatic Writing
by Colleen Benelli

Longer nights, colorful leaves, and the chill in the air, create within us the ancient awareness of the changing of the seasons. Autumn returns and we feel the internal call to go within and gather our resources. In Native American medicine wheel teachings, it is the time of the “West,” the place of inner reflection, the deepening of the self.

Reiki can help us travel deep inside, connect with our true self, and teach us to listen from our hearts. Reiki assists us in reflecting on our lives in a sincere way that can bring us fresh ideas to manifest our dreams and create new solutions to needed changes.

However, often when we reflect on our lives we use our minds instead of our heart, and see ourselves according to the expectations of others, or our culture. We make long lists of all that we have not accomplished or we look at the ways we “should” be, and we make choices that are not in alignment with our real hopes and dreams. This can block us from feeling peaceful, successful, and finding meaning in our daily life.

Using Reiki and a technique called automatic writing; the following exercise can demonstrate how we view ourselves when we listen to our minds, and the difference of how we view ourselves when we listen to our hearts. Automatic writing is simply writing without evaluation. Try not to think about grammar or writing correctly. Just put your pen to the paper and let it flow.

1. In your journal or on a piece of paper, describe yourself.

Stop here and complete step 1 before reading further.

2. Activate Reiki in your hands, if you are Reiki II or higher, invoke the symbols you are attuned to. Activate Gnosa and Iava if you are attuned to Karuna Reiki®.

3. Fill your body, heart, and hands with the divine light from above and from the earth. Surround yourself and fill your hands with the light and Reiki.

4. Place one hand on your third eye (forehead) and one hand on your heart.

5. Give yourself Reiki and ask Reiki to quiet your mind, help you connect to your heart and your true self, and give voice to your inner truth. Ask Reiki to help you remember who you truly are. Do this for at least 10-15 minutes.

6. Now write and describe yourself from your heart.

Notice the difference in the two descriptions. You can use Reiki and automatic writing to help you reflect on your life from your heart. Try this method to ask your true self other questions such as; what are your dreams, what you would do if you could do anything your heart desired, what changes are needed to manifest your dreams, etc.

Reiki is always available to assist us in our daily lives. Reiki illuminates the path before us so we can hear our own truth, make choices from our heart, and create the life of our dreams.

A Doctor Turns to Reiki
by Terry Sanders, M.D.

Life was good. Dorothy, a 63-year-old RN, and I, a 72-year-old medical doctor, loved retirement and the life we led. Although I had a crippled leg as a result of childhood polio, we were strong, active, and tireless. We roamed the hills of the Ouachita National Forest by foot or on horseback in the daytime and played music with friends three or four nights a week.

It was not to last. Dorothy developed rheumatoid arthritis in both hands, began to have pain in her knee, which hampered both walking and riding, and rapidly began to lose strength and endurance. By the fall of 1996 she had trouble getting up from a chair, frequently dropped cups, and was considering getting a walker. She became very depressed.

She began going to a health food store owned by Carol Hetzel of Mena, Arkansas. She felt that she received some relief from herbs and an ointment she obtained there. One day in December she returned from a visit to the store with the announcement that she had had a “Reiki treatment” and that it had helped a great deal.

“Reiki” was a new word to me. Dorothy was intentionally vague in her description of it, for she knew that I was completely convinced that any form of treatment that didn't come from conventional medicine was a scam. However, she had come home smiling for the first time in months. I DID consider it a scam and attributed any improvement to the placebo effect, but that didn't bother me; if she felt better I didn't mind her spending money on a scam.

Carol had just received her Reiki II. As I learned later, she already had training in reflexology, iridology, and various other alternative methods. After her first Reiki treatment, Dorothy told Carol that she wanted to be in the first class when Carol became qualified to teach.

One thing Carol told Dorothy bothered me. She told her that her knuckles, which were at least twice normal size, would lose a lot of their swelling. I had treated many people with rheumatoid arthritis and had referred some to specialists. None had received lasting improvement. Dorothy had already tried a long list of anti-arthritic drugs. I warned her to not get her hopes up, for I didn't want her to be disappointed when she failed to improve.

To my amazement, Dorothy did improve. Within a few days her pain was gone, and, as time went by, the swelling began to leave her knuckles. (Today, 10 years later, her fingers are crooked and some don't bend properly, but the swelling is completely gone, and she seldom has pain.) She also began to regain her energy and strength. The depression lifted, and she began walking again.

I couldn't understand it. Nothing in my 50 years of medicine had prepared me for this. I was positive that the Reiki had nothing to do with it. How could it? Among other things, Carol had told Dorothy to get on a diet of fish, chicken, vegetables, nuts, and fruit. I rationalized that the diet was responsible for the improvement. No matter what had caused the improvement, I was grateful because Dorothy always returned from her Reiki treatments smiling and enthusiastic. “What a pity,” I thought, “that she is excited about a scam.”

In December of 1996, Dorothy received her Reiki I and II from Carol. Since I was such a non-believer, we had more or less adhered to a, “don't ask; don't tell” policy, and I knew absolutely nothing about Reiki. Although Dorothy's health had improved in many ways, it never crossed my mind that Reiki was responsible.

Dorothy was so excited about being “a traditional Reiki II”— whatever that meant— that I felt I should humor her, so I said, “Show me what you have learned.” I felt very noble to waste my time with such foolishness.

She had already purchased a Reiki table. I lay down on it expecting to feel absolutely nothing. She turned on some (to me) weird music, and told me to keep my eyes closed. To my amazement my legs began to tingle, although she hadn't touched me. Soon I began to feel as though my body was flattening until it was only an inch thick. Then, I felt as though she was throwing dry water on my chest — it didn't feel wet, but it seemed to hit in one place and then splatter, as would water.

When she told me to open my eyes, my first question was, “What kind of electrical gadget were you using on me?” When she told me that the things I had felt were due to Reiki and that she had not touched me at all, I realized that there was something to Reiki. But what? How could it possibly work? I tried to understand it and make it fit into my medical training template, but I couldn't make heads or tails of it.

A couple of months later, Dorothy received her Masters training, and a few weeks after that she passed Reiki I and II to me. I didn't feel anything more than a little tingling when I received the attunements. I had no plans to ever use the Reiki. Two years passed and I did nothing with my Reiki. I still felt there was some value to Reiki, but I didn't know what it was and wasn't really interested. When Dorothy came home with some tale of Reiki helping some illness, which I, as a doctor, knew that I couldn't help, I was still skeptical.

Dorothy's younger brother Jim was as open to all things as Dorothy was. He was

a trim, broad-shouldered man in his early sixties, who appeared to be the picture of health, but, because of war and horse injuries, was on 100% disability. His back was so stiff and caused so much pain that it was difficult for him to bend far enough forward to be able to see in the mirror when shaving.

On April 26, 1998, Jim came up from Texas, and Dorothy gave him his Reiki I. She also treated his back several times, and he was pain free when he returned home. This impressed me, as I had watched him suffer for years.

Although I was basically a very healthy man, I had had occasional bouts of PAT (Paroxysmal Auricular Tachycardia) for 30 years. It had not been much of a problem, but it became increasingly frequent and began to occur every time I hiked in the hills. At Dorothy's insistence, I went to a cardiologist, who told me what I already knew, gave me a prescription, and said, “Take this when you have an attack — but you'll live just as long if you don't take it as you will if you do.”

If I took the medicine I developed diarrhea, so I took an occasional dose, but mostly left it on the shelf. One morning I was walking alone when my heart became so irregular that I had to stop to rest several times before I could make it back to the house. Dorothy, who had spent many years as an ICU nurse, listened to my heart and was alarmed by the pattern; she insisted that I take some Reiki.

I lay on the table, and soon I was aware that the pattern had reverted to normal.

I didn't feel or see anything unusual. When Dorothy finished, she said, “I think I cured you.”

My mind flashed back to what I had been taught in medical school, “Nobody cures Paroxysmal Auricular Tachycardia, Dorothy. I'll have it as long as I live.”

“Mentally I saw your heart." Dorothy replied. “It had a blackened area on it. I mentally removed all the black, and I have a distinct feeling that you are cured of your PAT.” I was dumbfounded. That was the first I had heard of that kind of thing, and I couldn't believe that Reiki could have any long term effect on PAT when millions of dollars had been spent on it without a cure having been found. Dorothy was beginning to believe some very weird things!

I had been having attacks almost every time I walked and I resolved to keep track. To my utter amazement, it was months before I had another attack. It was very mild; Dorothy treated me for a few minutes and I have never had another.

I began to believe that Reiki must be a good thing. For the first time, I started reading and talking about it. And Dorothy and I began to give each other Reiki almost daily.

This is just part of the wonderful article by Dr. Sanders. To read the rest of the story and learn about the other amazing healings Reiki created for the Sanders, please subscribe to Reiki News Magazine.

Reiki Stories

Reiki helps Cancer Surgery
My Godfather had cancer and was told a month ago that he had to have surgery to remove the cancer. I started to do Reiki healing sessions at night. Every night I did the same routine of the physical healing symbol, emotional healing, and anti-cancer symbol.

On one of his doctor appointments he had a test to see how far the cancer had spread. The doctor was amazed to find that it was still at the mild stage and not at the moderate stage where he expected. He had the surgery and the doctor reported to us it was unusual that there was very little blood loss and no transfusion needed.

He is now in recovery and is said to be healing at a rapid rate. I'm happy to say that Reiki saved my Godfather. Meredith McGowen

Reiki Heals Neck
My friend walked into the dance class with a neck brace. We gathered around her to understand why. It was hurting and she was unable to turn her head in either direction. She went to the Emergency Room. After evaluation they placed a neck brace on her and suggested this would relieve whatever was causing her pain and distress. I informed her of Reiki and offered to do a short ten minute treatment.

She was inspired to hear of how Reiki might help. She took off the neck brace for me to start. I suggested that perhaps she should keep it on since the doctors had placed it there for a reason, but she insisted, so I proceeded. After ten minutes of me feeling the energy flowing to her, I intuitively sensed it was enough.

She had sensed warmth and pulsing from my hands and she was surprised to turn her head. I suggested that she still wear the neck brace until she saw the doctor again, but she did not, and fortunately has been well ever since. Wendy Johnson

Reiki Helps with Ovarian Cyst
I had a client for massage one night, actually the day after I finished my yoga teacher training. I include this because my energy was very clean due to my training and diet.

Kate came in and said she had spent the night in the emergency room with two ovarian cysts. One had burst and they were hoping the other would burst or they’d have to operate. I told her I could try Reiki. So, I had one hand on each ovary. Within minutes of beginning the session the ovary began to release.

Then the energy was caught in her throat so I had her begin coughing and releasing. Then the pain became excruciating and I had her turn on her side and brought a trash can next her. She also said that from the moment I left, she felt no pain.

She called me the next day after seeing the doctor and the cyst had ruptured that night, and everything was perfectly clear. I found this night to be inspiring and I was grateful to be a channel in it. It makes me have faith in Reiki, more so than I had before that night. I know now that Reiki works how it needs to. It also strengthened me to know that I must end each session with extreme gratitude. I share this with love, and many blessings.
Emily Smith, Atlanta GA

Reiki Heals Puppy
I completed my Reiki master’s in 2000 and have had many wonderful experiences. But one particular case showed that faith of mind over matter is not necessary.

My next door neighbor invited me around to meet his pup, a Siberian Husky. The pup had just returned from the vet being treated for spinal bifida (paralysis). The vet had informed my neighbor that with Hydro and Physical therapy the pup might be able to walk again. I looked at the pup and his eyes showed that all he wanted to do was get up and play. I asked if I could do some Reiki on him. I stroked the pup for about 3 minutes and then stopped because my own dog became jealous.

Three days later my next door neighbor happily told me that the pup stood up and walked to the end of his lot and back again. I decided to give the pup another session of Reiki.

Three days later I was looking out my kitchen window and I saw the next door neighbor and behind him his pup running and jumping and following him everywhere. My heart gave thanks to the miracle I’d witnessed. Remain in Light, Lynette

Reiki Helps Cancer and Joblessness
Just recently I had requested distant healing from the International Center for Reiki Training for my uncle. My uncle had been diagnosed with advanced cancer to his liver. He is not a believer in miracles but when I told him about the wonderful healing energy of Reiki he'd become very interested and requested that I do a few treatments on him. He now has more energy than before and listens to Reiki music all the time. He feels very relaxed and says he sometimes does a meditation and when he closes his eyes he sees himself floating in beautiful rays of light. He is thankful for Reiki being introduced into his life. He hardly feels any pains or symptoms of sickness.

My second story is of a friend of mine who had been going through a rough patch and I requested distant healing for him as well. His girlfriend had broken up with him just as he'd lost his job and he felt that life was not worth living. I had introduced him to Reiki, did a few treatments on him and I requested help from the International Center for Reiki Training. I would like to say a heartfelt thanks to all of you for the distant healing performed for him. I’m pleased to confirm he now has a stable job; his entire lifestyle is improving, he is now more positive, and welcomes the positive into his life. Love, light and happiness. Sheroma
