Interview With Hiroshi Doi Sensei - Part I
by William Lee Rand

Overview
This is an important interview. A few of the topics covered by Doi Sensei include how Usui Sensei and the Gakkai teach Reiki. He also discusses the spiritual purpose Usui Sensei intended for Reiki and indicates that the Gakkai do not have a master symbol, just the 3 symbols of Reiki II.

Hiroshi Doi Sensei, a Gendai Ho Reiki Master who resides in Ashiya City, Japan, is a leading authority on the practice of Usui Reiki. His membership in the Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai places him in a unique position to access information about the style of Reiki developed and practiced by Usui Sensei. The Gakkai was the original organization started by Usui Sensei and the first four presidents of the organization through 1975 had received their Reiki training from him. Hiroshi Doi Sensei’s access to the Shinpi-den members of the Gakkai including the two most recent presidents along with access to Gakkai archives gives him an authentic source of information. His devotion to Reiki and to researching and preserving the historical facts of its practice make him a valuable resource to the Reiki community. He has also developed a system of Reiki called Gendai Reiki Ho and authored a book, Iyashino Gendai Reiki Ho, A Modern Reiki Method of Healing. This book was first published in Japan in 1998 and in Canada in 2000, but it has been out of print for almost 10 years. Now a revised version has recently been published. This interview will focus on this book and especially on the new information that has been included. This is the first part of a two part interview. The answers for this interview were translated from Japanese by Fumi Koji. (1)

WLR: The revised edition of Iyashino Gendai Reiki Ho, A Modern Reiki Method of Healing has additional information important to the practice of Reiki as well as an improved translation that makes it easier for English speaking people to understand the esoteric concepts you have expressed. Can you describe some of the additional information that the revised edition includes?

HDS: This book was revised in Japanese in March 2008, 10 years after the first edition. But this revised edition in English is not merely a translation of the original. The translator, who is a Gendai Reiki Master, gave it a thorough examination, and made suggestions to upgrade the information, which she confirmed with me. Then, we reviewed the important concepts with you, William, knowing that with your worldwide knowledge as a Reiki Master with over 20 years experience, you would be able to help us express the information in a form that would be more easily understood by the Western mind.

Through this more detailed editing process, the book has grown to better convey the facts about Usui Reiki Ryoho with its purpose of health and happiness and to better explain Gendai Reiki Ho, which is a more compatible system for 21st century people to live by.

The revised edition contains some information that I had not made available to the public before as it would have been considered too sensational at that earlier time. However, the time is now right for this information to be released. For instance, in the book you will now read explanations of the fact that Dento Reiki (the Reiki Usui Sensei taught) has neither a fourth symbol (Master Symbol) nor any Kotodama (mantras) and that some of the requirements of the Shinpi-den level students of Usui Sensei’s time have drastically changed since the time of the Gakkai’s second president.

In general, this book explains as easily as possible what has become clear to me in more than 20 years of practicing and teaching Reiki Ho. My translator, Fumi Koji and and you William, wonderfully made this happen by sorting and drawing precise points out of the huge stack of archives inside me.

WLR: In the revised edition you explain that the entire healing system of Usui Reiki was taught by Usui Sensei in the Sho-den and Oku-den levels and that occasionally some of the Oku-den students were taught how to give reiju (attunements) and offered this to students. Could you explain how this took place?

HDS: The whole course of Reiki healing is taught in Sho-den and Oku-den in the Gakkai. When a member is given Oku-den Koki (the second half of Oku-den), he/she is recognized as having completed the entire course of Usui Reiki healing. However, while the task of performing reiju is done by the Shihan (Shinpi-den title holder), some of those who were Oku-den Koki and in charge of local branches of the Gakkai were also taught reiju, and they offered this to the students of that branch. This took place only if the local branch didn’t have a Shihan. Today, the Shihan from the head office will visit the branch to give reiju when the branch chief is not a Shihan.

WLR: You have also explained that the Gakkai have only three symbols, which are the same three that are taught in Western Reiki Level II.  The Gakkai do not have a master symbol and there is no special reiju or attunement for those who become Shinpi-den. Was this always the case and is there any awareness, understanding or use of the Master DKM symbol by the Gakkai?

HDS: The third symbol is a unique shape that contains five kanji characters whose overlapping parts are removed. The meaning of the five kanji characters is: “The basics to become happy start with the right consciousness.” This is the final symbol in the Gakkai’s teachings; they do not have the fourth one. I confirmed this by asking Koyama Sensei (the sixth president), Kondo Sensei (the seventh president) and other Shihans, and they all said they did not know it.

Reiju is the method to let the internal Reiki of the person get tuned into the Universal Reiki. There is only one kind of reiju in the Gakkai and in Gendai Reiki Ho. Reiju it is not a technique to give special abilities; its only purpose is to open the “pipe” of Reiki. So there is no reiju for the beginners, reiju for advanced learners or reiju for Shinpi-den.

Gendai Reiki Ho employs the three kanji characters of DKM as the fourth symbol in its curriculum (Level III) knowing that it is not a part of Dento Reiki. It is used in Gendai Reiki Ho because it generates a high resonance effect with the sacred vibration and connects one with the Universal consciousness and brings this Light to our consciousness.

WLR: Some have said that the original purpose of Usui Reiki was for spiritual development, but that Usui Sensei eventually changed its purpose into a system of healing. How accurate is this statement? Could you clarify what the original purpose of Usui Reiki was and how it developed from the beginning to the present as practiced by the Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai?

HDS: Some groups claim that 臼井霊気療法 Usui Reiki Ryoho was intended to cure disease, as the Japanese word 療法 “ryoho” literally means the curing therapy. If so, Usui Reiki Ryoho would have been just another one of the treatment therapies that existed before Usui Sensei. Usui Sensei said, “I have never studied any methods for disease treatment.” He also stated, “Usui Reiki Ryoho makes us fit and well, moderates our thought and enhances one’s joy of life.” and “Usui Reiki Ryoho heals Kokoro [mind and spirit] first, and then makes the body strong and healthy.” These statements of his clearly mean that he did not give first priority to curing disease. Usui Sensei wrote two descriptive statements that introduce 五戒 Go-kai The Five Precepts: 招福の秘法 “Shofuku no Hiho” “The secret method to invite happiness” and the second one, 萬病の霊薬 “Manbyo no Reiyaku” “The miraculous remedy/elixir for all diseases” that follows it. In this way he indicates that the ultimate goal of Usui Reiki Ryoho is to become happy and that we enter this happy state by becoming healthy through hand healing. Gendai Reiki Ho summarizes these two titles as one: “The way to health and happiness.” The point to remember is that Go-kai shows the same method for both happiness and health.

Usui Reiki Ryoho started from Usui Sensei’s quest for the purpose of life. Healing and spiritual development are both like wheels that run one car, Usui Reiki. The axle that connects the wheels is the resonance with Reiki. However, at a time when most people in Japan were too poor to see a doctor or to buy medicine even if they were seriously sick, it was rather difficult to preach to them that they should understand Anshin Ritsumei (the purpose of life). Considering this social circumstance, Usui Sensei awakened public interest by using the name of “Reiki Ryoho” (medical treatment by Reiki) because the generic use of the word reiki (not necessarily connected with Usui Sensei) for healing was becoming popular at that time. Then he taught spiritual development to those who reached a certain level. He never changed the purpose of Usui Reiki Ryoho over the course of time.

WLR: Please explain the special spiritual training Usui Sensei provided for those students who were ready for the Shinpi-den level. Can you explain what that training consisted of and how long this training lasted for each student?

HDS: Usui Sensei had no standard curriculum, and the length of time of the training depended on the spiritual progress of each student. It is said that he gave one-on-one lectures mainly on the right mental attitude needed for spiritual advancement based on his own experience. As it was personal, only fragmentary notes of his words written by his student have been found. The note says:

“Everything in the Universe possesses Reiki without any exception.” “We humans hold the Great Reiki that fills the Great Universe. The higher we raise the vibration of our own being, the stronger the Reiki we have inside will be.”“The Natural Law of the Great Universe and each human spirit as a small universe must be constantly united and exist as One.” “The Universe exists in me, and I exist in the Universe.” “ 光明 Komyo exists in me and I exist in 光明 Kyomyo.” [Komyo is the light of enlightenment.] “Everything in the universe is produced and developed by the magnificent Reiki that fills the Great Universe. Humans are a microcosm that takes the Great Spirit from macrocosm; everyone holds a part of this Great Reiki in his body. Therefore, we must always try to cultivate spirituality so that we can receive as much Great Reiki of the Universe as possible.”

“The training according to the Natural Law of this whole world develops human spirituality. When you are convinced of this Truth, your committed training brings about the unification with the Universe. The words you speak and the actions you take become one with the Universe and they effortlessly work as the absolute limitlessness. This is the true nature of being human.”

WLR: Can you give a more elaborate description of Anshin Ritsumei, the state of consciousness Usui Sensei received on Kurama Yama.

HDS: While experiencing a variety of occupations over the course of his life, Usui Sensei pondered the question as to whether there was a purpose of life and if there was, what was it. After a long quest, he came to the conclusion that the purpose of life was to become happy and happiness meant the attainment of the state of Anshin Ritsumei. He recognized Anshin Ritsumei as follows: “We humans are given life and a mission from the Universe. When it gives us life and a mission, it can never impose illness or misfortune on us. Regardless of what happens in life, we should trust the Universe and keep a peaceful mind state in order to accomplish our mission. This is the purpose and meaning of life.” Though he logically comprehended what it should be, he was often perturbed by anger or fear in actual life. To experience that perfectly peaceful mind state, he practiced Zen meditation at a temple in Kyoto for three years. But it did not give him the true experience. He thought that he would not deserve to live any more if he could not attain the meaning of life. So he climbed Mt. Kurama for meditation and fasting with the readiness to die. He gradually felt that the Reiki inside him and the Reiki surrounding Mt. Kurama were vibrating with each other and that the vibration became stronger day by day. At midnight of the 21st day, a thunder-like shock hit him on the top of his head, and he lost consciousness. Then in the pre-dawn hours, he woke up to find himself filled with an amazing refreshment he had never felt before. “I am the Universe, the Universe is me!”It was the actual feeling of his soul in perfect resonance. Finally he was in the mind state he had longed for. It is said that from then on, he always kept that peace in his mind.

As he came joyfully down from the mountain, he tripped over a tree root and broke the left big toenail. He instinctively put his hand on it and it was cured immediately. This was the first of many healing experiences that occurred unexpectedly. He soon understood that healing took place through the resonance between his inner Reiki and Reiki of the Universe. He also recognized that the Universe had given him a mission to invite many people to find Anshin Ritsumei, the purpose of life, by way of a particular kind of hand healing. He named the method 心身改善臼井霊気療法 Shinshin Kaizen Usui Reiki Ryoho and established the Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai in Tokyo to provide both healing and training sessions for the general public.

WLR: To what extent was Usui Sensei able to help the Shinpi-den students attain Anshin Ritsumei?

HDS: It seems that he tried to create a certain and quick system to foster spiritual development for more people as he knew he would pass on soon. Many of them are said to have reached or nearly reached Anshin Ritsumei by studying with Usui Sensei. But I think that he was not satisfied with the personal lecture system as it could guide very few people to the purpose of life, to Anshin Ritsumei. Personal lectures are not always a guarantee of transmitting knowledge: they can be an effective method only if taught by the right person in the right way; thus its results will vary according to the instructor’s competence and the student’s readiness. I think Usui Sensei thought that he should provide a certain system and showed Ushida Sensei how to carry it out, as he put his trust in him. The system Usui Sensei handed down simply advised that one must have the right recognition of basic consciousness, that one must repeatedly engrave it into the subconscious mind and that one must enhance its resonance with the Universe. For this purpose, what Usui Sensei taught was based on a healing practice in which the student should strive for the unification with the Universe through regular practice of Go-kai and Hatsurei-ho, through reading the Gyosei of Emperor Meiji and through attendance at Shuyo-kai.

WLR: I understand that this special training was discontinued after Usui Sensei passed. Can you explain why it wasn’t continued?

HDS: Usui Sensei’s special lecture greatly strengthened and enhanced many of the Shinpi-den practitioners’ spirituality. Furthermore, he seemed to try to create a certain and quick system to foster spiritual development for more numbers of people as he knew he didn’t have a lot of time left in this life. I think he mentored the Shinpi-den practitioners so that the training would contribute to the spiritual advancement not only for the Shinpi-den practitioners but also for the rest of the Gakkai members. If Usui Sensei had intended to lead just a small cadre of elites to Anshin Ritsumei, he would not have needed to give them the responsibilities of board member and instructor. The lecture provided only to Shinpi-den practitioners was discontinued after Usui Sensei passed. I think it is much more natural to understand that this decision came about because they acknowledged Usui Sensei’s intention that they must simply develop what they had learned with him.

WLR: You also explain that after Usui Sensei passed, the Gakkai offered no additional training for the Shinpi-den level—that it is honorary only, but does require those at this level to accept the responsibility of teaching others, managing the Gakkai and adding the finishing touch to the Oku-den practitioners healing treatments. It is also understood that those who are offered and accept the Shinpi-den level do not teach Reiki outside the Gakkai. Can you elaborate on the Shinpi-den level and give any additional details that may be important for us to know.

HDS: After Usui Sensei passed away, the Shinpi-den level changed and the healing practice became a method to directly encourage spiritual advancement. The main responsibility of the Shinpi-den today is to instruct the members as Shihan. They do not have to add the finishing touch to Okuden practitioners’ healing treatments as members of the Gakkai do not provide healing sessions to the general public any more. They only give them to the members and their families. Now that they do not provide training sessions for the general public, the activity of the Shinpi-den practitioners is limited to activities inside the Gakkai. When an organization decreases in number, the number of board members decreases as well. As a result, very few of them are serving as board members now. None of the Shinpi-den, the Sho-den or Oku-den practitioners speak freely about Reiki outside the Gakkai like I, an Oku-den member, do, so I appreciate that this is my mission.

The more important thing to understand about Shinpi-den is that even if Usui Sensei had been alive today, it would have been very few who were assigned to his one-on-one lecture. Though the personal lecture for spiritual advancement is not available, Reiki still is the ubiquitous energy of the Universe that is available to guide and develop us. When we have this broader point of view, we can see that Usui Sensei’s intention has been manifested; the system of spiritual learning that was reserved for Shinpi-den practitioners has only grown up to be available for everyone to receive its benefits. We also have to remember that we can get only what we have recognized. Although you may actually have a million dollars in your bag, if you believe you have just 500 dollars, you will be limited to making small purchases. If you believe Reiki cures only the body, “your Reiki” cures only the body. I think we should appreciate that Reiki is the energy of Love that guides us to Anshin Ritsumei and through the practice of Reiki healing we increase our trust in the Universe.

WLR: Gendai Reiki is a combination of Usui Reiki and Western Reiki and you have explained in your book that this is a style that is better suited for modern times. Could you please explain why it is better for modern times?

HDS: When we see the Reiki method as ”the way of health and happiness,” advantages and disadvantages of Western and Dento Reiki become clear to us. Western Reiki has had a focus on collecting medical evidence because its practitioners place priority on its healing effects. Dento Reiki, on the other hand, today considers the healing practice to be more on the level of home remedies and is not so interested in the scientific examination of its effects. The attitude of Western Reiki is validated by its historical background: Hayashi Sensei had developed the healing method according to his medical perspective and Takata Sensei first used Reiki to cure her diseases. She then learned Reiki from him and provided Reiki treatments into her later years at her clinic. Western Reiki had started from these two people. So it is quite natural that it emphasizes its use for healing treatments. But it seems that the importance of spiritual advancement, which is the basic philosophy of Usui Reiki Ryoho, was not exported to the West enough. When I spoke as a lecturer to introduce the true story of Usui Sensei and the contents of Dento Reiki at several workshops from 1999 in Vancouver to 2003 in Denmark, so many Reiki instructors wanted to know about the spiritual aspects. In that respect, Dento Reiki has a high level of spirituality regardless of whether the Gakkai members are aware of it or not.

Gendai Reiki Ho’s way of health starts from the basic 12 hand positions of Western Reiki. But it is not merely a copy of the Western method. We employ the healing method in a way that encourages the healer’s growth. Effective healing is important of course, but it must contribute to the spiritual development of the healer. Reiki healing heals both healer and healee at the same time. In the Go-kai, the way of happiness refers to the spiritual aspect of Reiki practice and in Gendai Reiki Ho this is developed by having as its purpose the creation of a greater resonance between one’s internal Reiki and Universal Reiki through the use of various methods. It will continue to develop its effectiveness to this end through the use of the motto: “Clear, practical and simple Reiki for daily use.” I believe the combination of the healing aspect with the spiritual aspect is one of the biggest features of Gendai Reiki Ho.

Exciting New Reiki Book Just Released

Iyashino Gendai Reiki Ho
A Modern Reiki Method for Healing

Iyashino Gendai Reiki Ho was the first book written by a Japanese Reiki Master that was translated and published in English. The author, Hiroshi Doi Sensei is a member of the Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai, the organization Usui Sensei started to preserve and teach his Reiki healing method. It is from his association with the Gakkai and his access to their archives that Doi Sensei has written this book.

However, it had been out of print for many years. I had the privilege of working closely with the author as he updated the text to include many important facts that were not in the first edition. Some of this additional information had originally been withheld because of its sensitive nature and will likely be surprising to many readers. I also helped him to refine the translation so that the esoteric concepts would be more comprehensible to the Western mind.

This is an important book that preserves the original concepts and methods taught by Usui Sensei while at the same time offering a practical system of Reiki for modern times.

Reiki, Rattle and Roll
by Linda Gnat-Mullin

It is a misty gray and golden autumn afternoon early in this century, and I am with my Reiki Master, the esteemed Marifran O’Neil, at Madison Square Garden in New York Cit y. We have arrived to offer Reiki to some old Rock ‘n’ Rollers who are about to put on a show. When I later s a y, “Old Rock ‘n’ Rollers” to young people, they s a y, “Like Mick Jagger?” Well , not exactly. In this instance, we are at the roots of Rock ‘n’ Roll, working with recording stars of the 1950’s and early 60’s.

I believe in doing community pro bono work that brings Reiki into some unlikely places. Wit h certain important exceptions, nearly anybody with a body can benefit from Reiki.

But why work with old Rock ‘n’ Rollers? As a kid in the 1950’s, in those boring, pre-air-conditioned summers, I listened to the close harmonies about teenaged angst and love on tinny transistor radios. Those performers burst on the scene with pure energy, sharp outfits, and great dance moves to their wall-to-wall vocals. I loved the excitement they brought to my corn-fed life.

And so, in the first beautiful summer of the twenty-first century, I wrote a letter to the producer of the old Rock ‘n’ Roll show show offering our services as Reiki Masters. Some of the original stars, I stated, were undoubtedly getting on in years. Reiki could help their performances. After a little negotiation, we were invited. In thanks, we were sent tickets to the show and the promise of dinner with the artists.

Not long after, something happened. Forty-five days before the Rock ‘n’ Roll show, two planes buried themselves in buildings at the tip of Manhattan. New York was shaken, frightened, and in grief.

I started offering Reiki pro bono for W or l d Trade Center workers in a MASH-like unit at the New York medical examiner’s office; in my community; and for office workers in the buildings in the thick, dusty, chemical-laden air of the Financial District. The whole Reiki community was busy helping.

I am ready for some Rock ‘n’ Roll.

The producers invited First Responders and their families to come for free as honored guests. The event became a benefit for the New York City Firemen and Police Widows’ and Children’s Funds. And people are showing up. There is an air of anticipation. The line-up includes: Darlene Love, Mel Carter, Jerry Butler, Frankie Ford, Ed Townsend, Johnny Maestro and the Brooklyn Bridge, Eugene Pitt and the Jive Five, and more. Since the performers became our clients, however briefly, we of course can’t disclose who received Reiki.

Marifran and I make our way backstage, doing simple Reiki chair sessions of about 10 to 15 minutes each. Our Reiki goal is for best possible outcome, hopefully helping the performers to relieve a little stress, to give them a better range of motion so they can do their moves with grace and comfort. We explain what Reiki is, but mostly, we suggest that they experience it.

Singers are sensitive to energy; sound is powerful ene rgy. And it ’s clear that for the most part, they truly like Reiki. They thank us for our work. A man in white snakeskin boots wonders aloud if I can send Reiki at a distance. I say that we can. He says that his wife has turned stress into a communicable disease in his house, and wonders if I can send to he r. I s a y, kindly, only with her permission. He rolls his eyes a little, but then rolls his shoulders, too, and smiles a satisfied smile, saying that his shoulders feel so much better, he ’s ready to tear things up. No, it doesn’t mean he ’s going to destroy a hotel room. In old Rock n’ Roll speak, that means he plans to give a great performance.

At the last, we work with an older man in a somber suit and a baseball cap. He is courtly and appreciative of the Reiki. His friend, shy, pale and a little nervous, hangs back, an Instamatic camera on a black fabric loop around her delicate wrist. He tells us his greatest hit, and we remember it – and him. Once, he was a gorgeous, ebony-skinned young man with a s l ow, soulful ballad that undoubtedly launched a million makeout sessions in 1958.

We get the signal from the stage manager; it ’s time to take our seats in the audience. We have to stop.

The show starts, and we’re truly in love with it, as is the rest of the audience. The singing is vibrant, the choreography remarkably tight. The performers are stepping up to the mike and doing an exceptional job. Sometimes, our hands are warm and running Reiki energy involuntarily. This is an electrifying experience! And what we begin to sense, as the old songs are delivered with such vibrancy, is that there was love, there is love, and that there will be love, and all our hearts will mend somehow once again. The sounds are healing. Some of doo-wop is very close to chakra seed sounds. But more than anything, the energy of the songs recall and rekindle youthful innocence and optimism.

Then comes the man in the baseball cap. He is all alone in the sharp ray of a spotlight on a darkened stage. He starts the first few notes of his ballad; oh-oh: he ’s a bit hesitant.

Marifran and I look at each other, and begin to offer Reiki from the audience. It spirals out, bright ribbons of energy from an unseen spool, and we feel him drawing it in, gaining in strength, and he takes command of the stage, his voice becoming that of a passionate young man with a whole life ahead of him. He is singing with such grace, we feel the divine and perhaps his own prayers in his voice as well. He hits the big note in the climax of the song with total power, and then deftly, perfectly, sings the musical flourishes that follow. The song is ended. There is a silent split second, and then the audience leaps to its feet, cheering and clapping wildly. The man in the somber suit takes a humble bow and leaves the stage, a quiet smile on his face. He is gently alight with happiness – it is visible to the Reiki eye.

Within two years, he has passed.

Even now, we think of his face aglow as he steps off the stage. And we hope he cherished that moment as much as we did. There are so many places to share the beautiful gift of Reiki. Whom do you want to thank and honor with this powerful work?

Reiki History Updated
Place it on Your Web Site

One of the facts about Reiki is that the practice didn’t start out in the West with an accurate history. There were many discrepancies in the story told by Takata Sensei and there were also difficulties in uncovering accurate information about the history. The difficulties included language, cultural and geographic barriers between Japan and the West as well as the fact Reiki went underground in Japan after World War II making it almost impossible even for the Japanese to learn Reiki.

However, as early as 1991, I began a search for an accurate history of Reiki and over time many discoveries were made. As more accurate information became available, I updated the history of Reiki in Reiki the Healing Touch. Over the last several years facts have emerged that provide important new insight into how Usui Sensei discovered, developed, practiced and taught Reiki. These new facts have come from research done in Japan by Hiroshi Doi, Tadao Yamaguchi, Hyakuten Inamoto and Arjava Petter. In August I completed an update of the history of Reiki which is included in a revised version of Reiki the Healing Touch. However, this new history is now available on the ICRT web site.

You have permission to copy and place this updated history onto your own web site – as long as you do not make any changes and use the whole document. To read the updated history or to place it on your web site click here.

Center for Reiki Research
by William Lee Rand

The Center for Reiki Research web site provides important resources for those interested in Reiki research. The site features a listing and summaries of all Reiki research studies published in peer-reviewed journals. The summaries have been produced using the Touchstone Process; a highly rigorous peer-reviewed method of analyzing all the studies in a particular field. Its application to Reiki research is noteworthy.

The Touchstone Process was developed by the CRR staff, a group of seven doctorally prepared researchers and five nurses and is unique to the field of Complementary and Alternative Medicine. World Peace Card Meditation
Wednesday, May 14, 7:30pm

Future Dates

June 18, July 16, Aug 20

You are invited to take part in the next World Peace Card Meditations. Please mark your calendar and forward this notice to all your friends.

Thanks for Your Help!

Because so many of you forwarded this email to your friends, there have been more than 330,000 downloads of the World Peace Cards. This is a tremendous increase in the number of people using the cards. So far the total number of World Peace Card sets downloaded, received from our free offer and from our magazine has been over 346,000! I hope you have been using your peace cards as their use brings blessings to the world as well as to you.

The next World Peace Card group meditations have been scheduled for Wednesday, May 14 at 7:30pm. This is local time in your time zone. This method has been chosen because of the special effect it produces. As people meditate in each successive time zone the energy builds like a wave which gets stronger and stronger as it circles the planet. Because of the higher dimensional nature of consciousness, the energy of peace will be transmitted for a full 24 hours and continue long after this.

Reports from those who took part in the previous meditations indicate many had powerful spiritual experiences. As they united with those taking part in the meditation a feeling of peace developed within that stayed with each for a long time. Some saw beautiful golden light surrounding the planet and others felt that a web of fear was dissipating and being replaced with trust in others and for our future.

All those who have received the cards are being asked to meditate on world peace at this time. By taking part in this group meditation, you’ll be joining thousands of people who will be using the cards to bring peace to the world. By joining together, the affect we have will be greatly multiplied. This powerful experience and will help shift the vibration of our wonderful planet into a higher state of consciousness. As you use the cards to meditate on world peace, you will be a beacon through which peace will spread around the planet which will have a positive uplifting effect on all people.

Please set aside this time to meditate with the cards. The suggested meditation period is 15 minutes, but of course you can meditate longer if you’d like to. The technique I’d like you to use is based on allowing yourself to be a beacon of peace. The World Peace Cards hold the vibration of the World Peace Grids which have been placed at spiritually significant locations and are relay stations for higher consciousness. By simply opening to their energy, you’ll become a channel for their love and peace which will flow through you to all the people on Earth. To do this, hold the cards in your hands or place them in front of you. Then simply meditate on peace.

We are entering a new era. Our entire planet including all the people and living things are moving into a place where it will be much easier to solve our problems and to create peace, prosperity and happiness for everyone. The World Peace Card meditation will quicken this process, making it easier for people to experience this new quality of higher consciousness and will provide great benefit for all people. Since this benefit will be flowing through you out to everyone on the planet, you'll be blessed by this experience as well.

Many have received the cards in the mail or in the Reiki News Magazine while others have downloaded them from our web site. If you would like additional copies of the cards, please download them using this link and print as many copies as you can use. Please feel free to give them to your friends. Also, forward this email to anyone you feel would like to take part in the meditation.

Additional World Peace Cards
http://www.reiki.org/WPCM.html

Note: This is a larger file and it may take several
minutes for it to open, so please be patient.

When printing the cards from this file, print page 2 first, then place this page in your printer and print the image of the peace grids on the back.

New Reiki Grid - Send Reiki to Others

We also have a new image of the World Peace Crystal Grid that can be used for a Reiki Grid. By using it for your Reiki Grid you'll be tapping into the energy of all the peace grids and this will add to the energy that is sent to all those whose names or photos you place in the grid making the Reiki more effective and adding wonderful feelings of peace and harmony. And each time you charge your grid, you'll be charging the peace grids for world peace! With this system you'll use 12 crystals around the outside - placing 1 crystal over each of the crystals in the photo plus 1 crystal in the center and 1 as your master crystal for a total of 14 crystals. The additional crystals will also hold and transmit more energy. Also, remember you can place your goals into the grid as well. I suggest printing it on glossy photo paper if you have it or you could get some at your office supply store. You'll need to trim the one side of the grid after it's printed. http://www.reiki.org/Download/NPGridLetterSizeRGB.pdf

Reiki Heals Colon
An acquaintance of mine asked me if I would give him Reiki because he had severe stomach pain and could not keep any food in his stomach. I went to his home twice over a two week period and sent distance healing twice as well.

On Friday March 10, I received a call from this person, only this time he was in the hospital. He went for a colonoscopy and they immediately admitted him and scheduled him for surgery; the doctors were going to remove all of his large intestine due to perforations. They told him they were going to wait for a day until the inflammation went down and then they were going to operate. I went to the hospital on Friday and gave him Reiki and the 1st attunement so that he could heal himself. The doctors saw improvement on Saturday and he asked for one more day. They allowed it and on Sunday there was so much improvement that he was released from the hospital on Monday.  Jeannine Tock

A Little Girl Recovers Her Voice
In mid 2006 an associate told me about a little girl her sister was in the process of adopting. Maggie (not her real name), who was at this time 5 years old, had been sexually abused much of her young life. My associate shared with me that while Maggie suffered a number of emotional problems related to her abuse, her greatest physical problem was that she had been diagnosed with Human Papillomavirus (HPV). She had "lesions" located in her throat and believed to involve the vocal cords. Maggie could not speak above a hoarse whisper. More often then not this hoarse whisper faded away to no voice at all.

This was another source of emotional torment for Maggie. She was often made fun of at school. Many times, after I met Maggie, she would whisper in my ear that she had no friends, no one would play with her because she could not talk.

I told my associate about Reiki (I was a level two with very little experience at that time) and offered to give Maggie a treatment when the adoption was finalized if her "new" parents would agree. To my surprise they did. Not having had any experience working with a child I insisted the mother and the aunt remain in the room and decided to do a full body treatment, only because I didn't really know what else to do.

Our first session was a strange one. Within minutes Maggie appeared to be asleep. Her stomach began to roll back and forth like huge waves, over and over, swelling to the size of a small melon each time the "roll" reached her solar plexus area. She clenched and unclenched her little hands, her legs were restless, and she whimpered and made tormented faces. I whispered to the mother "shall I stop". The mother urged me to continue. The session lasted approximately 20 minutes.

Afterwards Maggie seemed refreshed and eager to have a drink. She was not at all frightened. Over the next several months I gave Maggie many treatments. Many times she would head for my Reiki table as soon as she walked in, crawling up without assistance, impatient to get started. In the beginning she did display a little of the strange activity of the first session but after that she lay peacefully, apparently enjoying her sessions. Maggie would always go into a sleep like state as soon as the session began with me working at the head area. Every time she would reach up, take hold of my hands and pull them towards her throat area. I sensed she wanted me to keep them there which I did. After each session Maggie would stand up on the table and jump into my arms giving me a big hug and a big smile and then she was off to play. If asked what she felt she would say only, it’s warm and com-for-ti-ble.

We saw improvement here and there in Maggie's over all behavior. She was happier. But still could not speak above a whisper. I was becoming discouraged. Along with the Reiki we sent out prayer requests all over the country. Then on Christmas Day 2006 I was out of state visiting family when Maggie's mommy called and said "there is someone here that wants to speak with you". My heart leapt for I just knew instantly that we had a Christmas miracle. Maggie could talk! I was hearing her voice for the first time. Still a little hoarse but over the following weeks her voice became stronger and stronger. Until today, over a year later, she talks nonstop.

After Maggie's voice returned, tests showed the lesions were still there. The doctors made little comment about the voice returning saying "this happens sometimes". Maggie was scheduled for surgery to have the lesions removed in May. During the interval the lesions were watched.

Reiki sessions continued, but not as often for Maggie had become impatient with Reiki. I was now her best friend and she was more interested in playing. Prayer requests continued.

The day of the surgery came and Maggie was taken into the hospital, prepped for surgery, and another scan to know just where the lesions were. Very shortly the surgeon walked out and announced, "Maggie won't be having surgery, you can take her home as soon as she wakes up" The lesions were gone! Pictures showed a smooth clean throat, not the angry red throat covered with lesions as before. Maggie now refers to herself as "a miracle kid". She still has some behavior and emotional problems caused by the abuse but she has come a long long way. Occasionally she asks for Reiki. She seems to know when she needs it.  - Betty Barden Gila

Reiki Heals Depression
I would like to share about a treatment I gave some six months ago on the Mediterranean island of Cyprus. During the past two and a half years I have been working as a Reiki Master/Teacher and practitioner and have treated around 1000 people during this time. Six months ago I was introduced to a middle aged lady who had booked a treatment. As soon as I was introduced to this lady, I knew something special was about to happen. This feeling, sixth scenes or intuition was something that developed after two years of giving hundreds of treatments and is a tool that I am able to use when it is needed, i.e. when a person has a deep seated emotional problem that they cannot talk about.

The client lay on the couch but I could sense that she was tense so I gently talked to her for 5 minutes and she started to relax. I noticed that her eyes were lifeless and started to feel a very strong energy field around her brow chakra. I started the hand positions and felt a feeling of calmness which became stronger with every hand position. My eyes were drawn to her face during the treatment and I could see her becoming calmer and more at peace as the treatment proceeded. By the end of the treatment she looked very calm and I gently woke her from her deep sleep.

The first thing I noticed about her was her eyes. They were full of life and as she spoke to me she seemed so alive, not like the lady I had seen one hour earlier. I asked her how she felt and with tears in her eyes she said "wonderful". She had seen a beautiful white light during the treatment which had made her feel safe, happy and calm. The experience she said had made her want to cry with joy. She told me that for forty years she had suffered from depression and that now she felt free! She said that she needed to go away on holiday to Cyprus to try and relax but felt that the real reason for her vacation was probably to have this Reiki treatment, although she had not even heard of Reiki before and only booked her treatment through a conversation she had with another guest at the hotel.

Reiki knew her problem and removed it, I knew it and so did she and after she left the treatment room, I felt very emotional. Reiki is a wonderful healing energy and I am fortunate to be able to treat so many people. I am now on a new journey, and am living in my home country " England" and with the help from the Reiki universe, am opening my own Reiki clinic. Philip Westwood

Knee and Fear Healed
I would like to share a personal anecdote regarding a miraculous experience that my mother had with Reiki over this weekend. I am writing on her behalf since she is not well versed with the English language. My mother was suffering from acute knee pain for the past couple of years which made simple movements like going from one room of the house to another a great challenge. Yesterday she took the Reiki I class from Master Kumud Bothra and to everyone's awe she was able to smoothly walk from the time she woke up in the morning today. Not only that, she was able to take the staircase to the 3rd floor of Master Kumud's house for the Reiki II class without her knee cap! She said her knee trouble has subsided 80% since yesterday. Also, she had a problem of being filled with fear whenever she stays alone. This fear too seems to have subsided miraculously. One day with Reiki and what an amazing experience! - Arjun Baidya
