Recovering
from Aids
by Dan Wray
This is an excerpt from an article
in the spring issue of the Reiki
News Magazine.
Finding out I had AIDS in January of 1998 was devastating,
especially as I was in the hospital extremely ill with Pneumocystis Carinii Pneumonia
(PCP, a bacterial parasite type pneumonia) and could hardly breathe. During this
time, a dear friend of mine called on a Reiki practitioner he knew and asked her
to visit me in the hospital. I did not understand why this lady I didn't even
know would want to sit with me several days a week for an hour at a time, especially
when I could hardly even speak most of the time.
I remember this stranger
asking me if I would allow her to visit and send me energy for healing. While
not fully understanding what she meant, I nodded yes-I was willing to try just
about anything. After three weeks in the hospital, I finally recovered enough
to go home, but I wasn't prepared to handle what was to happen during the next
four months-four months that changed my life in the worst way for the better.
Over
the next four months, I literally had to be carried into the hospital emergency
room to be diagnosed with something different each month, and each month I would
be in the hospital for a minimum of two to three weeks. In January and March I
suffered from pneumonia (PCP), and in February I had a severe paralyzing reaction
to my AIDS medications. But perhaps the most devastating time was in April, the
week of my birthday, when I contracted an opportunistic intestinal parasite and
Cytomegalovirus (CMV retinitus), a rare eye virus that usually causes one to go
blind-even if the four-hour, daily IV treatment works.
Several of the doctors
who were treating me said that I should get my affairs in order because they had
not seen anyone go through what my body was experiencing with AIDS-related diseases
and survive very long. Yet, every month the doctors were amazed that I recuperated.
I now attribute much of my recovery to the Reiki and prayers that I was receiving.
. . . . . . . . .
. . . . .One thing I find particularly amazing is that
not until I decided to practice Reiki did I notice major consistent improvement
in my health. It was after I became attuned to Reiki I & II and began practicing
on other people with AIDS that I noticed my T-Cells finally going up consistently
and the HIV virus in my body becoming undetectable with each set of labs that
came back. . . . . . .

Reiki
and Nutrition
by Laura Sauer-Ziemba
This
is an excerpt from an article in the spring issue of the Reiki
News Magazine.
Whether cooking is your thing or not, you have some type
of relationship with food-we all do. We've all heard "you are what you eat,"
and a basic philosophy I learned from macrobiotics is that "food is spirit."
It is obvious that there is a link between the quality of food we choose and its
effects on our bodies, minds, and spirits. Growing food, preparing food, and eating
food can all be spiritual practices.
Eating healthy food will also have
a positive effect on the quality of Reiki energy you are able to channel. Healthy
food keeps your body free of toxins and raises your vibration, thus providing
a more open and harmonious channel for Reiki energy to flow through. In addition,
the healthier you are, the less the Reiki energy will try to work on you as it
flows through you, and so more will end up coming out your hands and going into
the client. Being free of toxins allows you to be more sensitive to subtle energy
and to be better able to "read" a client and know where to place your
hands. You will also be more open to spiritual guidance in other areas of your
life as well. Obviously, the purpose of being a Reiki practitioner is to improve
your health along with helping others do the same, so focusing on a healthy diet
for yourself is a natural part of developing your Reiki lifestyle.
Before
I became a mother, I was an art student with a great interest in eating healthfully.
After my daughter was born, creating meals with whole foods became my art and
eventually my livelihood. I consider that path opening up to me to have been more
than a blessing. . . . .
. . . . Reiki can be used to raise the vibration
of your food, whether you are able to buy organic or must eat conventionally grown
food. The following techniques are especially important to use with conventionally
grown food. Whether vegetable, fruit, grain, or animal, each food type has its
own angel. Using the distance symbol, we can connect with the angels or devas
of our food and ask their assistance in returning the foods to the quality and
purity intended by nature. (Reiki One practitioners can do this with their intention
or through their higher selves.) When unpacking groceries, we can simply take
a few minutes to use Reiki to clear them and ask that the nutrition that Mother
Earth and the Divine intended be restored and any toxins be cleared. You'll be
surprised how the energy clears and becomes harmonized, just as if you were working
on a client. I also like to use the distant symbol to send Reiki to the soil the
plants were grown in and to the farms and people who helped produce them. Blessing
our meals and the people who prepared them with Reiki is also very beneficial.
Gratitude is a great healer. . . .
Recipes
Miso Soup
5
cups water
¼ cup bonita flakes (optional)
1 3-inch piece of wakame
(dried sea vegetable)
8 oz. block of tofu, diced into small cubes
2 Tbs.
barley miso
½ cup sliced scallions
Cover wakame with water and
soak until softened. Bring the 5 cups of water to a boil. Add bonita flakes, let
simmer briefly, and then strain out all flakes; this will impart a smoky rich
flavor. Slice wakame into small pieces, add to water, and simmer 5-10 minutes.
Add tofu cubes. Dilute miso with a little of the soup water, add to the soup,
and simmer 3 minutes longer. Add scallions and serve.
Barley Salad
2
cups hulled barley
4 cups water
pinch of sea salt
½ cup onion,
diced
½ cup carrot, diced
½ cup celery, diced
½
cup fresh or frozen peas
¼ cup thinly sliced shiitake mushrooms
½
cup seitan, cubed and pan fried (optional-available in most health food stores)
¼
cup parsley, chopped
umeboshi plum parsley dressing (see below)
Rinse
barley and add to 4 cups of boiling water with a pinch of sea salt. Bring back
to a boil, then turn down to low and simmer one hour. When finished, transfer
to a large bowl or pan and fluff with a fork to maintain individual grains. Blanch
the next four ingredients briefly in boiling water.
Soak the shiitake mushroom
caps for 3 hours, slice thin, and simmer with a little soaking water and tamari
for 10 minutes. If using fresh shiitake caps, slice thin and sauté with
a little tamari and sesame oil. Toss all ingredients with umeboshi plum parsley
dressing.
Any leftovers can easily be made into soup by covering with water,
bringing to a boil, adding tamari soy sauce to taste, and simmering for five minutes.

Explaining
Reiki to Christians
Have you ever had difficulty explaining
Reiki to Christians? Have Christians ever said negative things to you about Reiki?
Have you ever had potential students or clients back away from Reiki because they
are Christians and you found it difficult to answer their questions?
Are
you a Christian who would like to practice Reiki, but are concerned about it going
against your beliefs? Are you a Christian who practices Reiki and finds it difficult
explaining what you do to your Christian friends?
While Reiki is not religious
and it is practiced by people of all religious persuasions as well as those with
no religious convictions, the issue of how Christians view Reiki is one that most
Reiki practitioners have had to deal with from time to time.
If you want
to explain Reiki to Christians, it's important to know the biblical verses that
validate it and also why the negative things some Christians say about Reiki are
not true and are not biblical.
There is a new web site dedicated to explaining
Reiki to Christians. It has been created by Christians who practice Reiki and
it clearly explains in a positive and factual way why it is appropriate for Christians
to practice Reiki - if they feel guided to do so. It contains article by nuns,
priests and ministers who practice Reiki and there is also a Frequently Asked
Questions section that addresses most of the issues Christians have with Reiki.
I encourage you to review this website and also refer anyone you think
could make use of the valuable information it provides.

Training in Old Jerusalem
Karuna Reiki®
Training
October 24-26
Instructor William
Lee Rand
The most sacred place I've experienced!
This
October I'll be teaching a Karuna Reiki® class in the old Jerusalem, one of
the holiest cities in the world. The most sacred sites for Christianity, and Judaism
and the third most sacred site of Islam are located within the walls of this 3000
year old city. The quality of the spiritual energy here is greater than any I've
experienced anywhere on Earth! (Please see the article in the winter, 2003 issue
of Reiki News Magazine.) This is the reason this site was chosen for Karuna Reiki®
training.
We are fortunate that an appropriate workshop location has been
found within the walls of the old city. It's an art gallery in which a section
of the wall of Solomon's temple is kept. We also will have access to a meditation
area on the roof of a nearby building with views of much of the old city including
the Western Wall and the Dome of the Rock.
In addition to the spiritual
energies present, this location is also the focal point of many of the forces
that need to heal in order for peace to come to the Middle East, which once accomplished
will also have a ripple effect on the whole planet. Being present in this class
will allow you to contribute to a process which is working to create peace on
earth.
