Send this newsletter to a friend FREE Search International Center For Reiki Training Home Page Knowing Which Reiki Techniques to Use As students progress on the Reiki path new symbols, techniques and skills are acquired. By the time one takes more advanced levels such as Usui master or Karuna Reiki ® , the number of symbols, techniques, meditations and hand positions one has available to use really add up. In fact, after one has taken Karuna Reiki ® , you could have as many as 38 possible tools or techniques to use. Remembering all of them and knowing which ones to use to treat yourself or a client can be challenging. This can be especially true if you need to treat yourself for a difficult situation that has stressed you out. When we’re stressed, we often don’t think as clearly as we could and it’s more likely we’ll forget some of the possible techniques we could use and miss the one that is most appropriate. However, there is a method you can use to help remember your Reiki resources and also direct you to the ones you need to use for a particular situation. This is something I created for myself several years ago and it has proven really valuable. I made my own deck of cards with each of my Reiki resources listed on them. I was then able to use the cards to do a reading for myself that showed me which symbols, techniques, meditations or hand positions to use for the specific situation I wanted to heal or resolve. Here's How To Do It Then fill in the names or descriptions of each of the symbols, techniques, meditations and hand positions onto the cards – one to a card. Print them using card stock. Then cut them out with scissors. Cutting them out by hand will take a little time and patience, but it’s worth it. While you’re cutting, think of Reiki and it’ll make your work easier and also place Reiki into the cards. Once you’ve created your deck of cards use the following instructions to do a Reiki reading.
You can also use this technique for a client with an issue. Do steps 1-3 yourself and ask the client to do steps 4 and 5. It’s uncanny how accurate this method can be. The wisdom or Reiki will be guiding you to choose the right cards and often what you get will give you insight into your issue based on which symbol(s), hand positions and so forth that you get. This technique really works and I encourage you to create your own cards and use them! Recently I worked with a production company and had a deck of Reiki cards professionally printed. Raising Reiki-Conscious Children by Kathy “Kap” Parra If a child is to keep alive his inborn sense of wonder, he needs the companionship of at least one adult who can share it, rediscovering with him the joy, excitement and mystery of the world we live in. —Rachel Carson As the mother of three enlightened souls, I have had the opportunity to expand my consciousness to an expansiveness that resonates with the planetary vibration. I introduced Reiki into our family before conception, sending distance Reiki to our children, asking our children what they needed from me as a parent to prepare for their coming—from what food would nourish them the best in this life and what types of exercise, to which music and what spiritual ritual needs would best serve them. I also asked them about their names and the time of their births. Each time I was given clear, precise, conscious feedback while sending Reiki love. The mystic and intuitive in me knew these souls were to be taught the ancient transcripts of many suns and moons past and I was to merely guide them to their enlightened self. Each day together we experience Reiki love through our everyday living. Mornings generally start out with a gentle hug that says be well, be light and love, to yourself and to the planet. Most breakfasts are made together with eighty percent of our diet organic. Our family prefers a vegetarian/vegan diet. We bless our food with Reiki by placing our hands over it and sending God’s light, and then we eat over magical conversations of nighttime dreams, or angels and fairies that have danced their way into the wee hours of the night. John Holt was the forerunner a type of schooling called Unschooling. This type of environment has allowed our children more time to spend outside where nature is the enchanted teacher and they are the students of one of our grandest energies, “Nature.” Sharing Reiki with the children has empowered them as individuals. It has helped them trust and know their own Reiki energy and the healing power it has for themselves, others, the environment, animals, and our planet. One example of this is when my six-year-old daughter recently went in to have four teeth pulled, and they asked if she would like nitrous oxide. She exclaimed, “No, I’ll send Reiki love, and I’ll ask the angels and fairies to help me.” We visualized white and rainbow light surrounding her gums and teeth, asking God and the angels to remove any discomfort (we did however assist with some of the swelling with a homeopathic remedy, Arnica). The dentist was amazed at her calmness and peace, the day retained its usual bliss, and we went home and rode our bikes. Another of the children sent Reiki to our beta fish. It seemed to be ready to pass on, but she said, “No, I don’t think so; it’s not quite his time.” We all placed our hands on the outside of the bowl as well and put five drops of colloidal silver in the water and the next day he was swimming as well as ever. We will have had Merlin for nearly a year now. Watching them as they share Reiki energy with me, themselves, others, and nature has beckoned a new light to shine on the possibilities for the Universe if every child were given the opportunity to grow in an environment where Reiki energy was nourished, nurtured, and shared even once a day on a conscious level. An environment where they would be sitting down among nature and blessing each dew drop and sweet pea and its majestic beauty, hugging the tree in your backyard, and sending Reiki blessings to every living creature. Oh, the thought gives me tingles up my spine, knowing that our Universe would be receiving this precious energy. I invite us all to live through the eyes of Reiki and share it with those around us, especially our children. Share with them Just for Today that the Universe is safe, without worry, that the Universe is happy and abundant, without anger, that the Universe is open and giving, and that the Universe is kind. Tell them, whatever you choose to do today, do it with love and honesty; make your intentions to self, others, and all living things intentions of peace and love; and, lastly, share gratitude, gratitude for the ever expanding energy of Reiki that so graciously resides in each and every one of us. Back Issues Writers Guidelines Advertising Reiki Miracle Story We built a new house in 2000. One month after moving in, our daughter was told to think of adopting since fertility pills weren't working. We moved my mother in a few months later. She needed a pacemaker in January of 2001 but was in the hospital a very long time. They said that she had six months to live because of untreatable leukemia. A week before 9/11 our niece went to Tanzania as an exchange student. She contracted anthrax and was fighting for her life. The thing that broke the camel's back was that our choir director had been let go. I was a wreck. A friend said that we should go to a class at the local community college and I should focus on something else. Reiki was offered on the same night as choir and so I picked that. The rest, as they say, is history. We have two lovely grandchildren, and my mother is alive and very well. My niece married the guy who helped to save her life, and they just had their first child. With each of them I did Level II long distance healing and never even touched them or told them that I was giving them a Reiki session. (However, I did ask for and got permission directly from the Higher Power to send distant Reiki to them.) Would these miracles have happened without Reiki healing? Only a Being greater than ourselves can say that, but I would never want to spend another moment of my life without it.—Mariellen Kish Reiki in Prison Bodhisattva I am not. But I am a better person now that Reiki is a big part of my life. I was one of the blessed men who participated in receiving Reiki and were featured in the article entitled “Bodhisattvas Behind Bars: Reiki in Prison,” by Laurelle and Michael in Reiki News #14, Fall 2005. I used to have so much anger and hate coursing through me. So much so that I was the man who was videotaped shooting at the White House. Yes, that “was” me. Now I’m feeling much better because I’ve learned to heal myself using Reiki and by helping and healing others. It’s not a miracle. It’s about welcoming Love into our hearts and souls, then allowing that Love to show us the truth. After facing the truth of where the hate comes from, Reiki steps forward and the healing begins. Thank you Reiki. After Laurelle placed her hands upon my head, I had a beautiful experience. As I was sitting there three angels appeared around me. I don’t even believe in angels, but there they were—one at each side of me and the third right behind me. I stood up and started to walk forward. Light from a thousand Suns received me as if I’d been lost. I was so overwhelmed that I started to cry as my soul filled with Love. And all this happened within mere seconds. Thank you Reiki. Being in prison can sometimes “seem” dark and violent. But it’s not. We have the choice in “projecting” what we will. Through the use of Reiki I choose to heal and to project a positive and healing energy around the prison. I have honestly noticed a big decrease in violence since Laurelle and Michael gave us the gift of Loving Reiki Healing. Lastly, my change is also physical. My health and energy have increased, and I’m in better physical condition than when I was nineteen years old and in the Army. I feel great! Thank you Reiki! Duran Reiki Heals Back Pain Reiki to the Rescue My cat Fergus is a Reiki cat (since February when I began my Master's path) and has on occasion put his warm paws or his whole loving self by me or on me when I was in need of healing. He loves to sit with me while giving Reiki. He is very giving and friendly whenever visitors come around. I value him as a guide and a teacher on my own spiritual journey. But one afternoon, my beloved Fergus came home looking a bit sorry for himself. I couldn't detect anything wrong but he slept for a long time under the top cover on the bed. When he woke up his front leg had swollen up and I worried that he'd got an infected scratch. The next day was Sunday which I spent reading with Fergus either on my lap or next to me sending him almost constant Reiki. I was able to find the injury: it looked as though another cat had bitten either side of his forearm that was making his 'wrist' tender. I bathed it in saline solution and Reiki all day. The following day I woke with the thought that we'd have to go to the vet unless he was walking properly again. Thankfully he was. Fergus came to me a few times that day for an extra Reiki boost. He recovered very quickly without infection. My Tai Chi teacher’s cat who I had not yet met was very recently ill. I offered to send Reiki in return for a massage treatment. This eight-year-old cat had had a lot of fluid drained from around his lungs from an infected bite and my teacher was expecting a very large vet bill. I sent Reiki that afternoon and evening and was very pleasantly surprised to meet the feline in question the very next day. Apparently, the vet had been amazed at the swift recovery. His 'Mum' was pleased at the significantly smaller bill too. The cat is continuing to receive Reiki and loving thoughts from family members.
