Reiki Aura Clearing and Psychotherapy

This is an excerpt from an article in the summer edition of the hard copy Reiki News Magazine.

I'm a psychotherapist and Reiki master. I have found Reiki to be a useful adjunct to my counseling practice. It has improved the quality of my work and decreased the number of sessions necessary to produce significant healing and recovery for many of my clients.

Because of professional and legal constraints, I do not use hands-on Reiki in my counseling practice. However, Reiki aura clearing is a technique I can use, as it is done without touching the client. Aura clearing (also called "psychic surgery," but not the same as the Filipino version) is a technique I have found useful in both my counseling and Reiki practices. It is very powerful and often creates dramatic results.

This technique was developed at The International Center for Reiki Training and involves the combined use of Reiki, NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming), and a shamanic technique. The practitioner gains the help of the client by asking them to identify, in a metaphorical way, where their psychic pain lies in their physical body. Using this technique, the client usually becomes aware of an energy shape with color(s), texture, weight, and often, sound. To prepare for clearing, the practitioner does a number of things, including saying a prayer to call on spiritual help and extending their Reiki fingers. Once preparations are complete, the practitioner proceeds to pull out the energy shape using repeated hand motions combined with a breathing technique.

Aura clearing can quickly and easily release energetic blockages from all levels of the energy field, working more quickly than Reiki alone. These blocked patterns can be recent, from childhood, or even from a past life.

Some of their stories follow. (All the names and identifying information have been changed to protect the confidentiality of my clients.)

Rita, another counseling client, suffered from the trauma of being raped. At the time of the assault, she had been drinking and taking several medications for various physical problems. Because of the drugs, she didn't know exactly what happened, but she did know that she had been raped. A police exam confirmed this.

Rita was obviously traumatized when she arrived. She told me the man had held her hands down, but she really didn't want to discuss the experience further. Rita didn't have the words to describe what happened to her energetically. She just had a sense that his energy was still on her body, and she felt dirty. From an energetic standpoint, I felt that when the rape occurred, the rapist left pieces of his aura or energy in her energy field, leaving Rita to feel continually traumatized by the rape. She indicated that she wanted to release the feelings of contamination. This indicated to me that aura clearing would be an ideal technique for her situation.

As I scanned her body, I could feel her attacker's energy in several places, including on her hands. Blocks feel very different depending on how long they have been there, how much trauma they represent, and whether or not a spirit is attached. This energy felt very dark and repulsive to me, so I could tell that something awful had happened.

In the opening prayers prior to commencing aura clearing, I asked Archangel Michael to help along with the ascended Reiki masters. In my experience, Archangel Michael is able to help release attachments to one's energy field. I protected myself with the power symbol over all my chakras. Then I began pulling the negative energy from Rita in all the places where we felt blockages. I discovered that she also had blocks in her head and heart from the trauma of the experience. After about twenty minutes of aura clearing, I no longer felt any blocks remaining, and she reported that she felt released from the dirty energy.

I then proceeded to hold my hands over her body and give her Reiki for another twenty minutes to fill her energy field with positive energy. Rita commented that she felt she could go on with healing now that "his energy" was gone from her body. Previously, she felt repulsed by her body and the energetic remnants he had left.

After the aura clearing, Rita felt she could start to move forward with her life. Additionally, she no longer felt the need to talk through this event in counseling and was able to return to the other things we had been addressing. This is remarkable progress because a rape is often an event that impacts a person for many years and in many ways.

Yoga mudras are specific hand and finger positions, held for a period of time, used to create higher states of consciousness and promote well-being. Adding Reiki to this practice is a natural progression, and this article gives specific instructions on how to do this.

Kundalini yoga is another branch of yoga we visit in this issue. Laurelle Shanti Gaia in her article Reiki and Kundalini Yoga, provides understanding of this ancient practice. Also in this issue, Hiroshi Doi is Interviewed by William Lee Rand. Hiroshi Doi is a leading authority on the practice of Reiki in Japan. His membership in the Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai places him in a unique position to access information about the original Reiki methods of Dr. Mikao Usui as taught by the organization Dr. Usui founded. His dedication to healing and to preserving the Usui system of Reiki makes him a valuable resource to the Reiki community. He has also developed a system of Reiki Ryoho called Gendai Reiki and is the author of Iyashino Gendai Reiki-ho, Modern Reiki Method for Healing. In the article, He resides in Kyoto, Japan.

The popularity and acceptance of Reiki continues to grow - its use in hospitals is one sign of this. Our new column, Reiki In Hospitals, written by Jeri Mills, M.D., describes how Reiki is being integrated into hospitals and clinics. In this issue, she describes her own experience; in future issues, she will be writing about others' experiences, as well as providing useful information to those wanting to bring Reiki into hospitals or clinics. Also in this issue is an article about the use of Reiki for HIV/AIDS treatment, which verifies the usefulness of Reiki for those coping with this challenging illness.

Reiki can be combined with many healing modalities, and its use with psychotherapy is one of the exciting areas that some are working with now. The article Reiki Aura Clearing and Psychotherapy by Karen Harrison gives insight into how she uses Reiki to increase the effectiveness of her psychotherapy sessions.

Reiki Heals Brain
After I receive an attunement for Reiki II my husband suffered a severe heart attack. He was dead for seven minutes. While he was receiving electrical reanimation I gave him Reiki. After this he slept for three weeks. During this time we formed a group with some other people and gave him distant Reiki too. The doctors (I am a pediatrician) told me that if he survived he would be severe brain damage because of being dead for so long. Well none of those things happened. He is great! He recovered totally and now he works with Reiki and we both are very happy. Still many doctors do not understand what happened with him; others instead, are learning Reiki! Reiki Helps After Surgery
My mother-in-law had knee joint replacement surgery for both knees. Due to a heavy dose of drugs as an accompaniment of this operation she was disoriented and was tortured by hallucinations and nightmares. She asked doctors for sleep-inducing medicine but they declined. She was supposed to keep moving her legs after regular intervals as part of the healing procedure and even to do some leg-raising exercise with the help of her nurse even though it was an agonizing process. So, after giving her Reiki for half an hour with the help of my Reiki teacher and friend I applied Reiki to her room in the hospital. She slept peacefully and the next morning she felt she could do her exercises with less effort and quite a bit of ease. Her recovery quickened with the application of Reiki to her room. I think Reiki not only increased the efficacy of the medication, but it added its healing grace to her quicker recovery. Vishvojha

A Dying Lamb
In my first lambing season I had a lamb rejected by its ewe. My assistant brought me the lamb that overnight had become extremely cold. The lips were blue, the lungs rattling with pneumonia and the lamb was already in a fetal position. I had just been initiated in Reiki I and did not have the heart to tell my assistant this lamb was dying so took it in my arms. I turned on soft music and a nearby space heater for additional heat in the area and sat holding it for about 20 minutes while doing Reiki. I wrapped it in a blanket and left it in front of the heater expecting it to use the energy to pass away gently. I joined my assistant with other ewes and newborn lambs in the barn and actually forgot about the little lamb until we returned to the house for lunch. I opened the door and there stood the lamb bleeting for food and wagging its tail. It was totally well again. I burst into tears of joy then sharing with my assistant I really felt this little one was too far gone. Never know what the plan of spirit is in any living form! It became a healthy bottle baby. I am now a Reiki master but actually got into Reiki since I lived alone in the country with many animals and myself subject to possible sudden injury. It has proved a major blessing needless to say.
