FREE Search International Center For Reiki Training Home Page Blessed By Spiritual Beings This article is reprinted form the Fall 2002 issue of the Reiki News Magazine. The awareness that spiritual beings can help with the healing process and aid in healing sessions is something that many healers have experienced. This is especially true in the practice of Reiki, but is also present in virtually all forms of healing. The well-known healer, Barbara Brennan in her book, Hands of Light mentions this and it is mentioned in many other healing books as well. Spiritual beings play an important role in most religions including Christianity, Islam, Hinduism and Shamanism to name a few where they are believed to bring help, healing, guidance and blessings of many kinds. The most immediate example of this is in Reiki healing sessions where many report an awareness of spiritual beings coming to help in the healing process. This awareness comes in many ways, but mainly by inner sense perception that usually includes an uplifting feeling and an increase in healing energy. Many clients have stated that during a session they felt an extra set of hands being placed on them, but when they looked, only the Reiki practitioner was present. Others have had visions and seen angels, spirit helpers, saints or other holy figures usually surrounded by a glorious light, sometimes with halos, and presenting gifts of healing or guidance. Once while working on a client I had a profound experience with a spiritual being. The client, who I will call Joan, had a number of problems including stomach ulsers and back pain, but it was apparent that these were being caused at least in part by negative feelings and energies that were being projected to her by her parents. Joan had wanted to embark on a spiritual path and become a healer for a long time. This was an entirely new direction, and she thought it was right for her and was very excited about it. She had been attempting to get started with her plans, but was having a difficult time. Her parents, who were very controling, didn't believe in spiritual healing and had strong misgivings about her becoming involved in practices that seemed so strange to them. They were verbally and energetically trying to sabotage her. Because Joan felt she needed her parents support, she was allowing this to affect her. Whenever she saw them, they would argue with her about her decision to begin a healing practice and predicted disgrace and failure if she continued to pursue her plans and this left her in turmoil. She was slowly moving forward with her plans, but her health problems and the negative energy her parents were sending her made it very difficult. We had several Reiki sessions, which helped her relax and focus in a more positive way on her goal, and she felt things were getting better. Then during the third session something amazing happened. I started the session by drawing several Reiki symbols and also saying a prayer asking for help from the Higher power. I asked Joan to pray with me and during the prayer, she surrendered to the will of the Higher power. She simply stated that if she was not meant to be a healer like her parents were saying, and this was within the will of the Higher power, then she would accept this completely or any path that the Higher power decided was right for her. As she was praying, I sensed that her heart had opened. Then after I started the session and was giving Reiki and meditating on the energy, I felt something-powerful taking place over head. At the same time, my inner vision seemed to get much clearer and I inwardly looked up. I saw a being of light descending down into the room and into our energy fields. I immediately recognized this as Saint Peter, even though I had not had any conscious contact with him before and had never thought of him as one of my spiritual helpers. He had a radiant halo of bluish white light around his head, which was very piercing and had a feeling of perfect freedom. There was also a very strong experience of kindness and compassion and a feeling that he was smiling toward us and especially toward Joan. Also around him were other spiritual beings that seemed to be both helpers and students. In that moment, I felt both Joan and myself had been lifted up and a tremendous feeling of peace and happiness surrounded us. I saw all the negative feelings and habits that were part of Joan's experience with her parents in the form of an old book that was being thrown into a fire and burning up. The joy and feeling of love was so great that tears came to my eyes and I knew that we both were being blessed by a miracle. We stayed in that space a while and at the end of the session Joan said the pain in her stomach and back was gone and that she felt completely different about the situation. She said she felt like a cleansing process had taken place and something big had released itself from her. And while she felt weak from the experience, she also felt free and peaceful. Joan called me a few days later to tell me that she had visited with her parents and they seemed changed also. They didn't argue with her about her plans to be a healer and there was a positive feeling between her and them. Joan found it much easier to proceed with her plans after this and today is happily involved with her Reiki practice and has also begun to teach. I believe this experience was able to happen in part because of the meditation I was doing on accepting help from higher beings and also because Joan had set her ego aside and was willing to accept whatever was right for her. Experiences like this can become more frequent and powerful when we consciously take the time to develop our connection to higher spiritual beings. There are many exercised that help with this process, including meditation, prayer, and of course the use of Reiki. Reiki can by used to develop and strengthen your connection to spiritual beings. This can be a very positive and helpful experience especially when you choose an enlightened being or work directly with God. In fact, for the most part, I suggest when using the following technique, you focus on only connecting with enlightened beings or with God as this level of beings are the most trustworthy and can provide the greatest help. By enlightened beings, I'm referring to those who are one with God, free of all ego and filled with compassion and wisdom. These include Quan Yin, Krishna, Buddha, Mohammed, Jesus Christ, Mother Mary, the Holy Spirit, the Archangels, etc. Also, when I refer to God, I am not referring to a male or female God, but to the One Supreme Being who is beyond male/female, yin/yang etc. If you are the member of a religion, I suggest you use this technique to connect more strongly to the spiritual being who is the founder of your religion or to the spiritual messengers and helpers that are part of your religious system. If your are not spiritual or religious and feel uncomfortable about working with any of the above, I suggest you use this technique to attune to that part of your own being that guides the beating of your heart and is te motivating force behind your healing process. God as well as all enlightened beings are continually sending out powerful healing energies that can greatly benefit us. In fact, it is their intention that we be completely healed and become enlightened also. They are present now and are available to anyone who lifts their mind and heart toward them. The reason many do not feel these energies and do not seem to benefit from them is that they have not taken the time to attune to them. In order to receive the greatest benefit, adjustments need to be made in your mind and energy field that in effect open a door that will allow their energies to be received by you in a more powerful way. These special spiritual beings can help you heal in many wonderful ways. They can quicken your healing process, provide guidance, and also improve your abilities as a healer. They can join with you when you give Reiki treatments and increase the benefit you provide to your clients by adding their special Reiki healing frequencies to yours. They can also help you when you teach Reiki classes and give attunements. Here is a simple, yet powerful technique that can be done as a meditation. First decide which spiritual being you would like to work with. Choose one you are familiar with or feel guided to work with. If you are unfamiliar with enlightened beings, I suggest doing some reading about any of those mentioned above or any others you discover in your research. If you have any trouble deciding, I suggest you simply choose to work directly with God. Once you have a spiritual being in mind, sit in a quiet place and say a prayer to the being asking to be more strongly connected and to receive their blessings. The use of a picture of the being can be helpful also. Then draw out the Reiki distant symbol along with any other symbols you are guided to use such as the master symbol and begin sending Reiki to the being. As you do so, continue to pray asking that your connection become stronger and stronger and state to the being that you accept their blessings now. As you send Reiki, ask that you will be deeply healed. You can also pray for guidance for any project or issue you need help with, ask that your skill as a healer be improved and that your Reiki healing energies become more effective. You can also say prayers for others. By sending Reiki in this way, you form a special connection with the higher being that allows them to send help to you more easily and in refined and powerful ways. By doing this meditation everyday, you will be amazed by the results and by the experiences you will have. It is possible to be taken up into higher states of consciousness, to have visions, receive healings and be given special blessings and help on your spiritual path. I highly recommend that if you are at all interested in this meditation, that you decide to do it everyday as the results are cumulative and get stronger as you continue with regular use. In fact, I suggest you go ahead and try it right now! May you be deeply blessed by the love that dwells in the heart of every person. Passing through Zion Gate, we entered the Holy City, and I began feeling a very high spiritual energy working on my solar plexus. A healing was taking place within me, and the energy was very bright and uplifting. Streams of subtle white and blue light were weaving around me, and a very potent and penetrating form of clear light seemed to be working on my solar plexus. After a few minutes, I experienced a joyous release and felt uplifted, as though spiritual energies were now animating my physical body. I felt buoyant, strong physically, and very uplifted spiritually. This process continued as we went from one shrine to another. Amir, my sponsor, was
having similar experiences and mentioned that perhaps this was because so many
people focused their spiritual attention on this area, but I knew that something
more than that this was taking place. This was the highest and most powerful spiritual
experience I had ever had, and while large numbers of people focusing on one spot
could produce strong healing energies, it didn't seem to me that this would create
the purity and the very high levels of consciousness I was experiencing. My inner
impression was that the high spiritual energies were coming to us through the
direction of one or more of the enlightened beings or angels whose energies and
consciousness were grounded in the spiritual sites of the Holy City. The Dome of the Rock, an Islamic shrine that contains the rock which the prophet Muhammad stood on before ascending into heaven. This same rock is said to be the one Abraham almost used to sacrifice his son Isaac before God told him he could offer a goat instead. The Al-Aqsa Mosque is part of this complex. This is considered to be the third most sacred site in Islam. The Church of the Holy Sepulture, the most sacred site in Christianity, which contains both the tomb of Jesus and Golgotha, where Jesus was crucified. The Western Wall, also called the Wailing Wall, built by Herod in 20 B.C. as part of the second temple. The first temple, built at the same location, was Solomon's temple, which housed the Ark of the Covenant and was destroyed by the Babylonians. The second temple was destroyed by the Romans, leaving only the Western Wall. This is the most sacred site in Judaism, and it is said that the gate to heaven is located above it. Jews come to pray at the wall and often place written prayers into the cracks between the stones; the Wailing Wall is open to anyone who wants to come and pray. Jerusalem, a spiritual center for at least 3,000 years, was founded by Kind David in 1004 B.C. Because it is a holy city for Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, it is directly or indirectly a focal point for the prayers and spiritual energies of over a billion people. It has also been the cause of great conflict between these religious groups, who have fought each other over control of this sacred city. Because of this, Jerusalem has likely been the location of more suffering and bloodshed than any other city on earth. This is a paradox. How can a city that is filled with so much spiritual power also be the cause of so much suffering? This is a puzzle I continued to ponder during my visit to Israel. Bethlehem

This is an excerpt from the introduction of the new Reiki Master Manual. Shinpiden Western
Reiki Usui/Tibetan Reiki Mrs. Takata required all the Masters she trained to charge a fee of $10,000.00 for the Master level. She taught that this was a required fee and if you did not charge this fee, then you would not be teaching Usui Reiki. This high fee along with the tendency of her Masters to not teach many other Masters was causing Reiki to spread very slowly. After Mrs. Takata died in 1980, Iris decided that she would follow her own inner guidance and teach for a more reasonable fee. As far as I know, she was the only one who did this. All the other Masters Mrs. Takata trained continued to charge the high fee for Mastership. Iris trained only two Masters. One was Arthur Robertson and the other was her daughter, Ruby. She asked them to always charge a reasonable fee. Ruby decided not teach Reiki. However, Arthur Robertson did begin teaching and he had learned both the Usui system and the Raku Kei system from Iris. He began teaching in the mid-80’s. The reasonable fee allowed many more students to become Reiki Masters. He began giving Master trainings with 10-30 students in each class. Those that Robertson taught trained others and the number of teaching Reiki masters began to quickly increase. Because Iris Ishikuro broke the restriction that Takata had placed on Reiki, she became the pathway through which Reiki would spread more quickly and eventually be passed on to people all over the world. Because of this, it is likely that the majority of Reiki people in the world have their lineage going back through Iris Ishikuro. My first teacher, Diane McCumber learned Reiki from Arthur Robertson and was taught both the Usui system (Takata style) and the Raku Kei system. While I learned both from her in March of 1989, she mainly taught the Raku Kei system. Later the same year, I was also taught the Usui system from Marlene Schilke who also learned from Arthur Robertson. This gave me a solid understanding of both systems which I began teaching separately. However, many of my students wanted to learn both systems but didn’t want to take both classes and asked me if I could combine them. After meditating on this I realized that this was possible. I experimented and eventually developed the system I began calling the Usui/Tibetan system of Reiki. It simplified the process of attunements for Reiki I by using the one attunement system from Raku Kei. When I combined the two attunement systems, I included all the steps and symbols used in the four attunement system of Usui Reiki I. This made it a powerful, yet simple system that was easy to learn. However, the original Usui system of attunements as taught by Mrs. Takata is also included in this manual so anyone taking the master training can choose to use either the Usui (Takata) system of attunements (that includes the 4 attunement method for Reiki I) or the Usui/Tibetan method of attunements. Teaching Reiki I&II Together Actually, teaching Reiki I&II together is more traditional then what many have been told.I learned Reiki I in 1981 and since that time have spoken with many people who took classes from Mrs. Takata and some that sponsored her classes. From this information it is clear that Mrs. Takata sometimes taught Reiki I&II back to back or as part of the same class or taught them with just a few days in between. Also, in 2001, I attended a Reiki I&II class in Japan taught by Mrs. Yamaguchi. She was in her 80’s at the time and had received her Reiki training from Dr. Hayashi including her Shinpiden or master level from him. She taught in the same style that she was taught by Dr. Hayashi – and she teaches Reiki I&II together in one five day class with about 2-3 hours of class time per day. So, from this information, we can see that the traditional way as taught by Dr. Hayashi is to teach Reiki I&II together. However, for beginning teachers and those who feel guided to do so, it is also possible to teach them separately. Either way is fine. After becoming a Reiki master in March, 1989, I wanted to learn as much as possible about Reiki and decide I would take the master training from a number of Reiki masters. This broadened my understanding of Reiki and helped me in many ways. I learned the Usui/Takata style, the Raku Kei style, and several of the Japanese styles. I also sponsored Arjava Petter to teach his classes in 1999 in the US and so had the great opportunity of thoroughly learning the Japanese Reiki Techniques. The JRT training video was also created at this time. In addition, I have studied the JRTs from Mrs. Yamaguchi, Mr. Doi and Mr. Inamoto. organization started by Dr. Usui to promote Reiki and is still in existance in

Cancer One person was a level two with spots on the liver and lungs the other was a level three who underwent lumpectomies and radiation. Pat and I worked on both these women as a team- the condition was "hands on" because their condition was serious, with the appropriate permission and with me as both a support and adjunct energy source we worked on these women. Pat being a woman had no difficulty touching the breast; I did not touch the area. Both women have been in remission for the last two years, the individual with lung and liver involvement continues to have a clean bill of health from her Medical People. We believe we are in concert with the medical treatment consequently it's a combination of treatments which appears successful so far. Pat and I believe that the touching of affected areas becomes very necessary the more stressful and severe the problem, however we are also very aware of the invasiveness that may be perceived by some individuals so,,,, not only is verbal permission asked for but we also have written permission signed and dated; neither of us work alone with this type of patient as we have also found that since Pat is an Empath she sometimes requires assistance and support during the treatment session. It is also critically important that a thorough
preparation and meditation be done prior to treatment but the cleansing and grounding
after treatment can't be postponed. It is a good idea
I began to Reiki him bi-weekly giving him full body treatments for about 1.5 hours or so. After several sessions, I asked him if he wanted to become a Reiki channel and he agreed, so that he could give himself Reiki in between our visits. He reported that the Reiki gave him a lot of energy so that he could get household chores done. When he began radiation treatments the Reiki helped him to sustain his energy and appetite. Nevertheless, the growth in his urinary tract still forced him to have the catheter which was beginning to become problematic causing spasms and severe pain. Each week the catheter was removed to see if he could urinate. He became discouraged and the doctor told him they might need to do a procedure to remove the growth. I told him to have faith and to continue with the Reiki and we would see what happens. At what became our last session, I gave him Reiki and focused a long time on his bladder area. He had to get up a few times to empty his bag, which was unusual during our sessions. He noted that there appeared to be some tissue matter in his urine and we wondered if the growth was breaking up. The following day, he went to the doctor and when the catheter was removed he could urinate. After many months of having this catheter in, he was ecstatic. His healing has progressed well since then. As a Reiki practitioner since 1980 and a
master since 2002, I am always amazed at how effective Reiki is to get the healing
